Cooking with ChristyB bio picture

Cooking with ChristyB!

Those that know me are probably wondering why on earth I, of all people, would start a cooking blog.

My original intent was to become more organized by creating a weekly dinner menu for my family as a way to force myself to cook.

In turn, this blog was created as a way to force myself to keep up with my weekly dinner menus so I wouldn't let down my tens of readers by not posting. It's a vicious cycle.

I never claimed to be a very good cook though I do enjoy giving it the 'ol college try. My family says I cook "Cajun" (as in BURNT). I simply don't have the patience to hang around the kitchen while something is cooking and I routinely forget to set the timer which often results in "blackened" dishes.

With the creation of my weekly dinner menus, I have found a new passion for cooking. I don’t dread cooking meals (at least not every night). I by no means create any of the recipes shared on this blog. I simply enjoy researching new recipes and sharing them with my readers along with my main passion, photography, by photographing images of the final product.

I hope you enjoy reading about my cooking adventures. Maybe my dinner menus will encourage you to be more creative with your family’s dinner meals.

Here’s to making a mess in the kitchen!

The Best Coffee Cake. Ever.

Every Sunday morning the smell of homemade breakfast floated through the air when I was a child. Unfortunately for my kids, the smell of homemade breakfast usually only floats through the air in our house when we are having breakfast for dinner. Or, when they can con their dad into cooking them breakfast....

Dutch Baby Pancake

When I need something quick to make for dinner (translation: when I forget to set something out to thaw), I always fall back to “breakfast for dinner”.  But, I get tired of the usual bacon and eggs or pancakes.  This Dutch Baby Pancake was just the “something different” I was looking for.  It’s like a...

Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls

“I’m back in the saddle again.”
After taking an extra long break from cooking, I’ve got my mojo back. I fell off the proverbial horse but got right back on. I’m back to torturing my family with my cooking concoctions. They probably wouldn’t admit to it, but I don’t think this...

Chocolate Strudel

I’ve had this recipe for awhile now and never tried it. Recently I was scrounging for something to make for breakfast because cooking supplies were dangerously low in our household. I was boycotting grocery shopping. However, I didn’t boycott eating. As luck would have it, I had all the supplies I...

Hearty Strawbery Banana Smoothie

In preparation of bringing home 4 dozen freshly baked cookies from a cookie exchange tonight, I’m making myself feel a tiny bit better about hoarding the entire 4 dozen to myself while I sit in the corner of my closet by drinking a healthy strawberry banana smoothie for breakfast. Perhaps I’ll drink one of these...

Sticky Buns

Today is the day. Today is the day I get to meet The Pioneer Woman and have her sign my copy of her cookbook. This is probably the closest I’ll get to meeting someone famous. I’m sure I’ll get up there and be able to think of absolutely nothing to say to her. Others will...

French Toast Bites

Being that I’m not a morning person, I sometimes opt to enjoy a nice breakfast for dinner. In a pinch, you can’t beat a quick meal of eggs, bacon and some type of bread. French toast bites are fun for a change and easy for little ones…and big ones, like me…to eat. ...

Cherry Swirl Coffee Cake

Growing up, every Sunday morning my mom would make some type of homemade breakfast. Unfortunately, that tradition didn’t carry over into my own family because, if I’m lucky, I am the last one to wake up on Sunday mornings. Breakfast on the weekends in our household is my husband’s duty. Sometimes he cooks,...
