Cooking with ChristyB bio picture

Cooking with ChristyB!

Those that know me are probably wondering why on earth I, of all people, would start a cooking blog.

My original intent was to become more organized by creating a weekly dinner menu for my family as a way to force myself to cook.

In turn, this blog was created as a way to force myself to keep up with my weekly dinner menus so I wouldn't let down my tens of readers by not posting. It's a vicious cycle.

I never claimed to be a very good cook though I do enjoy giving it the 'ol college try. My family says I cook "Cajun" (as in BURNT). I simply don't have the patience to hang around the kitchen while something is cooking and I routinely forget to set the timer which often results in "blackened" dishes.

With the creation of my weekly dinner menus, I have found a new passion for cooking. I don’t dread cooking meals (at least not every night). I by no means create any of the recipes shared on this blog. I simply enjoy researching new recipes and sharing them with my readers along with my main passion, photography, by photographing images of the final product.

I hope you enjoy reading about my cooking adventures. Maybe my dinner menus will encourage you to be more creative with your family’s dinner meals.

Here’s to making a mess in the kitchen!

Beer Bread

Nothing beats the Tastefully Simple Beer Bread, but at $5.49 a box, it’s worth giving the homemade version a try. I first learned of this beer bread recipe from a family friend when I was younger. I think this is the one and only thing she knew how to cook. We were...

Even the most inept cook can make this yummy recipe. I know, I did it!

Chocolate Cinnamon Rolls

“I’m back in the saddle again.”
After taking an extra long break from cooking, I’ve got my mojo back. I fell off the proverbial horse but got right back on. I’m back to torturing my family with my cooking concoctions. They probably wouldn’t admit to it, but I don’t think this...

Parmesan Knots

For me, dinner just isn’t complete without good bread. I would never be successful at a carb. diet because I don’t think I could give up my love affair with bread. Actually, I don’t think I would be successful at any diet, for that matter. This recipe for Parmesan Knots is so...

Chocolate Toffee Cream Cheese Muffins

Chocolate + toffee chips + cream cheese = sinful muffins and several additional pounds on my hips. Of course, they might have been even better if I hadn’t cooked them a bit too long. This girl has things to do. I can’t stand around watching my food cook! That’s...

Family Povitica Bread Making Day

For as long as I can remember it’s been a family tradition to hand out fresh baked Povitica bread loaves on Thanksgiving to our family members. The tradition started with my Great-Grandma Cook who used to make dozens of loaves of this yummy Croatian/Polish bread from scratch every year.

There was no written recipe when she...

Sticky Buns

Today is the day. Today is the day I get to meet The Pioneer Woman and have her sign my copy of her cookbook. This is probably the closest I’ll get to meeting someone famous. I’m sure I’ll get up there and be able to think of absolutely nothing to say to her. Others will...

Welsh Rarebit ~ AKA Welsh Rabbit

In preparation of meeting The Pioneer Woman on Monday, I’ve been cooking more of her recipes lately. Last night I was in the mood for her Welsh Rarebit, as she calls it. I started cooking it and didn’t get it finished before it was time for a photo session. My dear hubby...

Roast Beef Dinner ~ It Doesn’t Get Easier Than This

My favorite cool weather “go to” meal is Roast Beef, Potatoes (sorry we leave out the carrots) and a Rhodes Bread Loaf. Start it in the morning and come home in the evening to a warm homecooked meal. This is one of the first meals I could cook successfully when I first got...
