Cooking with ChristyB!

Those that know me are probably wondering why on earth I, of all people, would start a cooking blog.

My original intent was to become more organized by creating a weekly dinner menu for my family as a way to force myself to cook.

In turn, this blog was created as a way to force myself to keep up with my weekly dinner menus so I wouldn't let down my tens of readers by not posting. It's a vicious cycle.

I never claimed to be a very good cook though I do enjoy giving it the 'ol college try. My family says I cook "Cajun" (as in BURNT). I simply don't have the patience to hang around the kitchen while something is cooking and I routinely forget to set the timer which often results in "blackened" dishes.

With the creation of my weekly dinner menus, I have found a new passion for cooking. I don’t dread cooking meals (at least not every night). I by no means create any of the recipes shared on this blog. I simply enjoy researching new recipes and sharing them with my readers along with my main passion, photography, by photographing images of the final product.

I hope you enjoy reading about my cooking adventures. Maybe my dinner menus will encourage you to be more creative with your family’s dinner meals.

Here’s to making a mess in the kitchen!

Hearty Strawbery Banana Smoothie

In preparation of bringing home 4 dozen freshly baked cookies from a cookie exchange tonight, I’m making myself feel a tiny bit better about hoarding the entire 4 dozen to myself while I sit in the corner of my closet by drinking a healthy strawberry banana smoothie for breakfast. Perhaps I’ll drink one of these every morning until Christmas. Yeah, probably not. I just happened to wake up extra early this morning to get a head start on the day. Normally I drag my rear out of bed with just enough time to jump in the shower, dry my hair so it’s extra frizzy and slap on a bit of war paint as not to scare any little kiddos that I might encounter during the day. After all of that there is little time to make breakfast.

When I do have time to make a smoothy I make it in this nifty little single serve blender that I got from Wal-Mart for under $20. The plastic cup twists right off and the lid is a travel lid to prevent spilling on the go. I love this little thing!

Hearty Strawberry Banana Smoothie
*Recipe from TastyKitchen.com

½ cups orange juice
1 cup plain Or vanilla fat free yogurt
⅓ cups instant oatmeal
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon sugar
1 whole banana cut into fourths
5 whole strawberries
1 cup ice (about 4-5 cubes)

In a blender, add ingredients in the order listed.
Blend, then pulse to crush the ice.
Pour into a large cup or travel mug for an on-the-go meal.

Here’s to healthy eating before I break into those cookies!

December 9, 2009 - 3:44 pm Lori - War paint I haven't heard that since your dad chauffering us around in "My Go-Go". I was actually trying to explain that to Clint just the other day I don't think he appreciated it as much as we do :)
